Description:
Standard air is roughly 21% oxygen and 79% nitrogen. Nitrox blends — typically EAN32 (32% oxygen) or EAN36 (36% oxygen) — replace some of that nitrogen with oxygen. The benefit is longer bottom times within recreational no-decompression limits, plus less residual nitrogen between dives. The cost is a shallower maximum operating depth, since higher partial pressures of oxygen become hazardous past certain depths. The course teaches you to balance those trade-offs in real dive planning.
Knowledge development covers the theory. Oxygen toxicity. Maximum operating depth tables for different mixes. How to analyse a tank with an oxygen analyser before every dive (always — never skip this). How to set a dive computer for the mix you're actually breathing. The practical part is straightforward. Two open-water training dives are recommended but not required: with this certification you can earn it from the eLearning plus a short analyser-handling session if you've already logged enough dives to demonstrate competence.
Open to PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers aged 12 and up. The certification stays valid for life. Divers 12 or older can also earn the Enriched Air rating as part of their original Open Water Diver course — ask your instructor before you start. The eLearning runs 2-4 hours. The whole course can finish in a single day if you only do the analyser session, or 1-2 days if you complete the optional two dives.
